Home EV charging

Charging that starts with the panel, not the plug.

A Tesla Wall Connector is simple to use. What makes it charge reliably for years is the electrical work behind it: a panel with room for the load, a circuit dedicated to the charger, and a wire run that is sized and routed properly.

We are licensed electricians first, so the load check, the circuit, and the install are handled by the same team.

  • 01

    Panel & load check

We confirm your panel and service can carry a charger. If not, we’ll walk you through a panel upgrade before anything is installed.

  • 02

    Dedicated circuit

The charger gets its own circuit, sized for the charger and run cleanly from the panel.

  • 03

    Garage or exterior placement

Mounted on a garage wall or outside, where the cable reaches the car and the run stays tidy.

How it works

From load check to first charge.

  1. 01

    Load check

A quick look at your panel, service, and how the home already uses power.

  2. 02

    Plan the location

We agree on where the charger goes—garage or exterior—and how the circuit will run.

  3. 03

    Install

Dedicated circuit, charger mounted and connected, and a tidy, labeled panel.

  4. 04

    Walkthrough

We confirm the charger is working and answer your questions before we leave.

For builders & designers

EV-ready garages, planned before drywall.

On a new build, pre-wiring for a charger at plan review is far simpler than opening finished walls later. We plan the circuit, panel capacity, and charger location with the rest of the electrical design.

After move-in, the calls come to us, not your builder.

EV-ready checklist

  • Charger location marked on the garage or exterior plan
  • Panel capacity reserved for a dedicated charger circuit
  • Circuit run to the charger location before drywall
  • Charger load included in any backup power plan
  • Garage and exterior lighting planned in the same scope

Part of the whole house

Planned with your backup power and smart home.

Where it makes sense, we plan the charger alongside the rest of the electrical work—so one team accounts for every load on the panel.

  • Generac & Kohler backup power

If you have or are planning a backup generator, we plan how the charger fits the load plan, so the generator covers what matters during an outage.

  • Lighting & Lutron control

Garage, driveway, and exterior lighting and Lutron lighting control can be planned in the same scope.

Questions

Tesla charger installation, in plain English.

Do I need a panel upgrade for a Tesla charger?

Not always. Every install starts with a load check of your panel and electrical service. If there isn’t room for a dedicated charger circuit, we’ll explain the options—including a panel upgrade—before any work begins.

How long does a Tesla charger installation take?

It depends on your panel, the distance from the panel to the charger location, and whether any upgrades are needed. Installs are typically scheduled after a quick load check, so you know the scope before we start.

Do you install other EV chargers?

Ask us. Tell us which charger you have or are considering, and we’ll let you know whether it’s a fit for your home and panel.

Are you licensed?

Yes. River City Electric is a certified Tesla installer and holds Tennessee electrical license #75272 and Georgia electrical license #EN218035.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. Planned charger installs include a free estimate based on your home, panel, and preferred charger location.
